Ford Escape XLS Auto 2006-07

Here's one I can write for hours about, But I wont. Why
because mine has just hit 50000kms.
Currently my Escape purchased Feb 07 is doing the Kms
city mainly with some motorway work. As yet I have not tried the 4x4 aspect and
don't expect to.
Briefly its a Mazda 4 cylinder109KW engine .
Seating wise just right for Mum, Daughter 4 and son 5
(both in restraints) I have the reason for the vasectomy now as a third would
mean a quick trip back to the car dealer for something bigger, in the back not
bad .plenty of space for the cricket set, picnic blanket, portable ice box
and kids stuff. Child restraints are in the top of the roof in the rear . Back
seat for the kids just great maybe a wee bit tight for anyone over the age of
12.
Performance you say, well I have had my little baby
through its paces within the law of course and yes it goes , it does go sort of
just . It does worry me when you need that kick . Motorway driving seems to be
the place for that little bit of response needed when changing lanes or keeping
up with a fast moving interstate trucks trying to get to the Woolworths depot
before 4.30.Response keep in mind its a 2.3 four cyl. its no V8 race car.
Fuel wise I cannot say I measure it but my thoughts are
for the style of driving I do fuel usage for the Ford Escape is on the heavy side.
Please note for Australian purchases that the Ford road
side assist program is not available on escape 4x4.
Tank size is 58 litres and currently I am using only
Shell 10% ethanol. Fuel costs and in my opinion performance has not altered even
using 98 unleaded .
I like the visibility factor , just nice clearance, ABS,
sound system and twin airbags. Things that are grating on my nerves is the
uncomfortable seating position. (Just been told by the doctor that a tendon
complaint in my fore arm could be due to driver seating position),
constant dirty rear window, lack of sun tint on front windscreen and a clunk on full lock that's been there since new
Oh and I don't feel 100% with the brakes although they seem to be doing all
expected of them.
Overall in the Auto the Ford Escape is not a speed machine but not bad for
the money either. In 50000 kms I would give it a 7/10. New tyres front at
40000 kms
Have a drive , put the kids and the weekly groceries in
it and take it for a run up some hills and make your own mind up.
Servicing is every 10000 kms
Looking forward for the current US Ford Escape model to hit the
streets.
