Its the best selling SUV in the top end market and rightly so. This 2008/
2009 model BMW is winning the hearts of buyers in this difficult market.
What's good about BMW X5 is the price between the petrol and diesel is
minimal and a justifiable option.
Its quick, quiet and has a load of great features. The twin turbo just gives
this BMW and new lease of life at 3200 rpm and can really be felt by 4200rpm
(maximum intake pressure).
From a interior point of view the extra length and third row seat gives the
feeling of space but the drive puts you in the mind of Chevy Chase looking
at Kristy Brinkley in holiday vacation.
This is a techos dream, the rear camera, the sat nav, electronic parking
brake, heads up display, and wrap it all up with the iDrive that thinks
about the nav system, air cond and stereo, just the ticket for those of road
adventures.
Fuel consumption is terrific 8.8 lt/100 kms and on the open road on the speed
limit the engine is just ticking over giving you the best for the liquid
gold
dollar you could expect from a vehicle like this, you drive a 2007 Prius hybrid
and get 5.7lt/100km. No hang the expense. The BMW X5 3.0sd is just the package
for around town , country drives and the odd light tow maybe to the polo or race
club.

Comparing BMW X5 models
Comparing to the X5d, power is up 40 Kw Torque is up 65 Nm, max speed 30 kph,
and fuel consumption down a little on city cycle but up slightly on highway .
The X5 3.0si and power remains the same torque is well down as you
would expect on the X5 si ,But its the fuel figures where the difference
is
The innovative, driver-oriented display and control concept iDrive is
another of the features first incorporated into the BMW 7 Series.
iDrive divides control of the car into two use-oriented sectors:
The driving sector, with all the functions necessary for driving the
car, including for example the multi-function steering wheel and the
information display.
The comfort sector, that allows you to operate all the comfort functions
using no more than a minimum number of control elements.
BMW has developed a sophisticated but easily used concept for the
comfort sector: it calls this concept the Control Centre.
The Control Centre consists of:
The controller, a push-rotate-slide dial that enables you to control as
many as 700 functions in the car
The control display, which displays whichever functions you select.
Integrated functions controlled by the steering wheel buttons.
Technology
The controller is conveniently positioned within easy reach on the
centre console. You can slide the controller, turn it or press it
axially:
Slide the controller to navigate through the eight main menus. The eight
main axes of movement correspond to the directions indicated by the rose
of a compass.
Turn the controller to navigate through the various submenus
Push the controller down to confirm a choice.
No two people are likely to slide, turn or push the controller in
exactly the same way. BMW developed an innovative technology in order to
ensure that the controller always interprets the command inputs
correctly, no matter who is driving the car:
When you slide the controller, you can perceive the effect of mechanical
guides along the main axes of movement. These guides make it easier to
select the main menu you want.
When you turn the controller, you feel electronically generated detents.
They help you to stop at the correct item in any particular menu.
The control display is an ATFT colour screen with brightness-sensitive
back lighting, so that you always see all the details on the screen
clearly, regardless of your viewing angle.
A photocell, measures the intensity of the ambient light so that the
display can compensate for surrounding brightness. The control display
adjusts the backlighting accordingly.
The Control Centre's CPU coordinates controller and control display and
functions as the interface to the other control centres in the car.
Data flows are maintained dependably and efficiently by optical fibres,
with transmission rates as high as 22 megabits per second.
Benefits
The Control Centre enables you to control as many as 700 comfort
functions in the car using a single element, known as the controller.
This facility contributes to enhanced safety on the road.
